What is orthodontics?
Orthodontics is the dental specialty that deals with the correct positioning of the teeth in the mouth for optimal masticatory, phonatory and aesthetic function, thus avoiding a multitude of problems arising from a malposition of the teeth or dental crowding.
For whom is the use of orthodontics indicated?
Any patient who presents problems of dental crowding, malposition of teeth, and/or malocclusions (not biting correctly) would have an indication for orthodontic treatment, regardless of the patient’s age. Nowadays, it is not only younger patients who undergo orthodontic treatment, but more and more patients of more advanced ages are undergoing this type of treatment (largely due to the alternatives that currently exist to orthodontics with brackets).
What are the benefits of orthodontic treatment for your teeth?
Having properly aligned teeth and a stable occlusion provide a state of oral health, avoiding a multitude of future problems, in addition to promoting a tremendously more attractive and healthy smile.
Orthodontic treatment can be performed with brackets (metal brackets), porcelain aesthetic brackets, lingual brackets (placed on the back of the teeth) and in some cases with Invisalign (invisible orthodontics).

What is the duration of orthodontic treatment?
The time of an aesthetic orthodontic treatment varies greatly depending on the problem of each patient. Treatments range from 12 to 18 months, in some cases it can be shortened and in more complex cases it can be lengthened.
How many days will I be inactive?
It does not require any type of inactivity or sick leave.
Are there any contraindications to this treatment?
It has relative contraindications such as periodontal disease, or TMJ joint problems, but once these problems are treated and controlled, orthodontic treatment can be performed.
